Course objectives

• The path of a scientific product: from the idea to the scientific communication
• Pros & Cons of the different experimental approaches
• Basics of inferential statistics
• Overview of the Open Science Movement

Results of learning outcomes

Students will be able to follow the entire process of a scientific product, knowing each step of a research project.

Students will also be aware of the problems related to the sampling procedures, their risks and possible solutions.

Students will know web-based open source tools to frame the research work in an Open Science viewpoint.

• What is a grant proposal
• What is a scientific product (Paper, talks and posters)
• Science Dissemination & Science communication
• Different forms of scientific studies (experimental and quasi-experimental approaches)
• Frequentist probability
• Linear model and its basic implementation (t-test, ANOVA, correlation, p-value, Confidence Interval)
• Sampling, Power & Effect Size
• Reproducibility crisis: Problems and solutions
• Open Science movement and its tools
