Phd thesis

My reseach project concerns new approaches to explore eating behaviors and body image alterations in patients with anorexia nervosa.More specifically I am collaborating with the department of eating disorders, at the Molinette hospital in Turin. In order to collect our data we are using various experimental methods such as breaking continuous flash suppression,
binocular rivalry and virtual reality in order to test these patients’ reaction to food
stimuli (conscious and unconscious), body-size estimation and body awareness. The
results of such procedure will help us to continue with the research project in finding
new possible therapeutic means/treatment for anorexia nervosa and other eating
disorders.

Research activities

The courses i succesfully followed by now are: Introduction to Research Methodology, Clinical, methodological and theoretical aspects of translational and cognitive neuroscience and Ethics of research and Responsible research: an introduction.

Furthermore part of our PhD program are also some seminars and presentations in the field of Neuroscience, under the name of ‘Journal club’ which I attended all of them by now.

In addition to what mentioned above I have also been involved to various other projects
that are currently running in the department by our team. More specifically I supervise a
research project called “Individual differences in processing visual food stimuli with
diabetogenic and hypertensive characteristics”. This project is in collaboration with the
University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, thus some of the days I am visiting it, in
order to test the participants according to the experimental methods.

Moreover, I am giving my contributions to another project about food, satiety and
calories which is currently ongoing by our team. My role by now is to do data collection
and analysis.
